How To Look For and Find Rare Coins
71Coin Collecting
How many times have you pulled money out of your pocket and been lucky enough to find a rare coin. Well maybe you have, but for the most part, how to find rare coins is not something we always think about as money passes through our hands. Unless you are a serious coin collector, you probably don't even look. Until recently, I never gave it a thought. It was one day when I was just surfing around on the computer that I started reading about how there are certain coins in existence that are considered rare and if brought to auction could be worth great deals of money One being a 1943 copper penny. That's because, it was a year in history when copper was in great demand therefore only a few pennies, mistakenly were made from copper. Most that year were made from steel. If you have a 1943 penny that does not stick to a magnet, it could be worth money. So how do you find rare coins? There are few ways but it is not easy.
Save pennies and or coins in a jar and periodically go through them. If your grandparents have coins, ask to go through them after doing your research on collecting rare coins. When you get rolls of coins for whatever reason, always check them. Sometimes, pawn shops and antique stores have good deals on old coins. Always pick up pennies or coins you may find on the ground. Gold coins are by far the most valuable especially right now.
Other information I found was that coins with errors on them are often times worth money. Overlapping or blurred letters and or numbers, coins with the same thing on both sides ( double headed) or perhaps a three legged instead of a four legged buffalo on a buffalo nickel. Coin values vary, but if you think you have one that may be worth something, it is certainly worth checking out.
I found it fascinating looking into the different types of coins that could bring a person into some bucks should they have one in their possession. Right now another popular item is anything that is silver especially silver dollars and silver half dollars. All kinds of pawn shops and antique stores are buying silver and gold so why not take your silver coins in and see how much they are worth.
Advice. Look your coins over before you spend them, you might just have a gem in your pocket.

Also, if you are at a yard sale or estate sale you might find rolls of coins that are being sold to get rid of, you can usually buy these for the face value, i.e 50 cents for a roll of 50 pennies. Go through it to check for older or rare coins, whatever is left, you can take to the bank and deposit.
