Remedies For Ailments That You Can Fnd Around The House
Whenever there was something wrong Mom always had a quick natural remedy. Many remedies for ailments can be found right around the house without running to the drugstore every time something is wrong. Many quick natural remedies I learned from Mom when I was growing up. I still use many of them today and have since told my own kids about them. I'm sure some of them were ones she learned from her Mom. And that scenario goes on and on so it's hard to tell who first learned that some of these things were used to relieve issues or ailments. So what are some quick, natural remedies for ailments?
Although some may have seemed to work back then and even as I grew up believing that they worked, nowadays there are some that are not recommended or they say do not work. One example is putting butter on a burn. We always used to do that but that is no longer the case.
Here are a few I learned from Mom and/or Dad. My Dad swore that when he had indigestion that all he needed was a glass of baking soda and water. Baking soda and water was also been used to stop itching and was especially used on a bee sting when mixed with a little water to make a paste.
The home remedy of vinegar was used for multiple purposes. I always keep vinegar in the house because of it's advantages. Apple cider vinegar helps to cure acid reflux if mixed with water and drunk prior to a meal. A vinegar and water solution is a good way to stop itching as well. It has also been used as a gargle or a mouthwash to help alleviate bad breath or a sore throat.
Salt was another thing we used quite often for ailments. Toothaches, sore throats, and cancer sores were all supposedly relieved by a salt gargle. Salt water was sometimes boiled and if sick with bronchitis, we would stand and breath the steam to help cure that too.
The BRAT diet has been used to help ease back into eating after a bout with the stomach flu. B for Bananas, R for Rice, A for applesauce and T for toast.
There are a number of things I have learned that I like to keep around the house that prove to be useful for certain types of ailments. Here are some of them.
Vaseline has been used around the house for chapped lips, jock itch and other forms or dry.or chapped skin.
Aloe plant liquid - use it to put on minor burns
Vitamin B - take when your mood needs a pick me up
Hydrogen Peroxide - used to treat minor infections from cuts and scrapes. I have also used it as a gargle for at toothache or mouth sores but do not swallow
Witch Hazel - used as a compress for skin irritations including hemmroids
Cammomile Tea - relaxation
The things we learned from Mom have come in handy. We will most likely learn a lot from this hub contest regarding Alternative Health.
